Soroptimistas apoiaram centro de acolhimento de crianças desacompanhadas

O CENTRO DE ACOLHIMENTO PARA CRIANÇAS REFUGIADAS (CACR) tem tido muita procura desde que foi inaugurado em Maio de 2012.   

O  projecto contou com o interesse e colaboração do Soroptimist International Clube Lisboa Fundador, que envidou todos os esforços para que a zona do recreio exterior do Centro de Acolhimento para Crianças Refugiadas se pudesse transformar numa realidade. Em  Setembro de 2011, por ocasião do 20º aniversário do CPR, realizou-se a plantação  de árvores oferecidas pelo Soroptimistic no “Jardim das Crianças” do Centro de Acolhimento para Crianças Refugiadas. Cada árvore foi plantada por uma  Soroptimista, tendo, simbolicamente, sido dado o seu nome a essa mesma árvore. As Soroptimistas ofereram também o mobiliário para a zona de lazer das crianças.

As histórias de vida das  "CRIANÇAS NÃO ACOMPANHADAS" que têm chegado a Portugal demonstram bem como, em pleno século XXI, o mundo tem cada vez mais  necessidade da solidariedade dos povos e dos Estados.

Soroptimist International reaffirms objectives

Soroptimist International redefined SI Programme Goals for 2011 – 2015 in its meeting in Montreal, as follows:
Goal 1: 
Soroptimist International will improve the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment or enabling opportunities.
Objectives:
1. Increase access to formal and non-formal learning opportunities.
2. Improve access to economic empowerment and sustainable opportunities for the employment of women.
3. Eliminate violence against women and girls and ensure women’s participation in conflict resolution.
4. Ensure women and girls have food security and access to highest attainable standard of health care.
5. Address the specific needs of women and girls by improving environmental sustainability, and mitigating effects of climate change and disasters.
Goal 2: 
Soroptimist International will be a global voice for increasing access to education and leadership for women and girls.
Objectives:
1. Strengthen and increase SI’s presence as an advocate at all levels.
2. Intensify activities and partnerships that raise the international profile and visibility of Soroptimist International.
3. Ensure that the foundation of SI’s global advocacy is local and global project activity.

Especialistas em Colóquio sobre a Água no Século XXI, 23-Maio

Soroptimists go for Water é o tema dos projectos das soroptimistas europeias no período de 2007-2011. Ao celebrar o seu 13º Aniversário, a União de Portugal vai discutir a Água no Século XXI com especialistas portuguesas e internacionais.

Catarina Albuquerque, a primeira relatora especial das Nacões Unidas para o direito à água, vai falar das políticas da água.

Maria Emília Freire, que tem trabalhado durante anos no Banco Mundial, vai falar dos desafios da gestão da água.

Maria Teresa Oliveira vai falar da educação para a sustentabilidade.

Mais de mil milhões de pessoas no mundo não têm acesso a água segura para beber, 2,6 mil milhões de pessoas continuam sem usufruir de saneamento básico e quatro mil crianças morrem diariamente por ingerirem água contaminada. Mas o problema da água existe também em Portugal e outros países desenvolvidos.

Tradicionalmente, são as raparigas e mulheres as responsáveis por carregar a água para toda a família, o que acaba por as afastar da escola.

Este evento das Soroptimistas em Prol da Água é aberto à participação pública.

Human Rights/Status of Women
Women will be empowered by being afforded human rights and freedom from all forms of violence.
A. Eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.
B: Eliminate trafficking of human beings, especially women and girls*
C. Reduce the harmful effects of conflicts and war on women and girls.

Education
Women and girls will enjoy enhanced status and will be enabled to achieve their full potential throughout their lifespan.
A. Work for universal primary education and access to lifelong learning for women and girls*
B. Work for universal access to quality education and training opportunities for women and girls in technology and
non-traditional occupations.
C. Facilitate the understanding of the role and contribution of men and boys to achieve gender equity.

Economic and Social Development
Women will live and work in safe and equitable environments with equal opportunities for advancement.
A. Develop programs and partnerships to eradicate the extreme poverty and hunger of women and girls*
(Empower young women to meet today’s challenges)
B. Improve societal and workplace conditions to enable women to achieve their potential.
C. Increase women’s involvement in managing and decision making

Health
Women will have optimal mental and physical health throughout their life span.
A. Actively promote awareness of women’s needs and their role in combating HIV/AIDS*
B. Improve nutrition and access to health care and medical supplies/medicines for women and children.
C. Decrease maternal and infant mortality rates*
D. Support ending tobacco usage (Lobby for ratification and implementation of World Health Organisation
Framework Convention on Tobacco Control)
E. Eliminate drug and substance abuse.

Environment
Women will be equal partners in the process of managing natural resources, maintaining biodiversity and achieving sustainable communities.
A. Improve and increase access to safe drinking water as a basis human right*
B. Support sustainable development that includes improved protection of ecosystems
C. Increase fair distribution of food resources to those in need.

International Goodwill and Understanding
Women will be equal partners in the attainment of wold peace, tolerance and understanding.
A. Enhance respect for all cultures and halt all forms of discrimination through increased tolerance and mutual
understanding*
B. Advocate for women’s participation in the peace process, to include reconciliation, reconstruction and the
humane resettlement of refugees.
C. Advocate for the banning of landmines, the clearance of residual ordnance and rehabilitation of the land.
(Promote the implementation fo the Ottawa Treaty)
